Lately, I’ve been trying to improve my habits and self-care routine, so I also started researching and testing different ways to keep my lips hydrated because they’re usually pretty dry. And I realized you don’t need to spend a lot of money or have an extreme routine to actually see a difference.
Sometimes, the simplest habits are the ones that make the biggest impact.
So today I want to share 5 tips that have personally helped me make my lips look and feel more hydrated, soft, and healthy—without spending too much and without using a ton of products:
1. Drink more water
It sounds basic, but it really makes a difference. When I drink enough water throughout the day, my lips look less dry and chapped.
2. Gently exfoliate once a week
This helps remove dead skin and makes any lip balm, gloss, or lipstick look so much better. I usually use sugar mixed with honey, or simply a damp towel with soft circular motions.
3. Apply lip balm before sleeping
This tip helped me so much. Before bed, I apply a slightly thicker layer of lip balm or petroleum jelly, and when I wake up my lips feel way softer and more hydrated.
4. Avoid biting them or peeling off dry skin
Even though it’s tempting, it only irritates them more and makes dryness worse.
5. Protect them from the sun and weather
Heat, wind, and even air conditioning can dry out your lips a lot, so carrying a lip balm with you really helps more than we think.
And if you also like adding a little extra care to your routine, here are some products I’ve been loving lately for keeping my lips hydrated and protected ✨ (the lip oil is definitely my favorite):
Vaseline Lip Therapy
Price: $2 – $5 USD
Helps hydrate and lock in moisture on the lips. It’s ideal for dry or chapped lips. It does not contain sun protection.
Nivea Hydro Care
Price: $3 – $6 USD
Provides lightweight hydration and leaves the lips feeling soft for everyday use. It doesn’t feel heavy or sticky and does not include SPF.
Carmex Classic
Price: $2 – $5 USD
Deeply hydrates and helps repair very dry or cracked lips. It may create a slight cooling or tingling sensation due to menthol and camphor, which not everyone enjoys.
Aquaphor Healing Ointment
Price: $7 – $15 USD
An intensive repairing ointment for extremely dry or chapped lips. It helps restore the skin’s natural barrier and is one of the most effective options for healing and regeneration.
Price: $5 – $12 USD
Add shine and softness while providing light hydration. They are more aesthetic than deeply repairing, making them perfect for everyday wear or makeup looks.
Lip Sunscreen (Nivea Sun Protect Lip Balm SPF 30)
Price: $4 – $7 USD
Protects the lips from sun exposure, helping prevent dryness, burns, and darkening over time. Ideal for daily use, especially if you’re frequently outdoors.
Since I started paying more attention to lip care, I’ve noticed a huge difference. Not only do my lips look better, but they also feel much softer and healthier. And the best part is—you don’t need a complicated routine to achieve it.
